The Hemocue WBC micro-cuvettes is made of plastic and comprises a body having a cavity which takes about 10 uL.
The microcuvette serves as a sample container and reaction chamber. The cuvette cavity contains reagents deposited on its inner walls and the blood sample is drawn into the cavity by capillary action and spontaneously mixes with the reagents. A hemolyzing agent lyses the red cells in the microcuvette and a staining agent colors the white cells. Capillary or venous blood can be used. When the microcuvette is placed in the analyzer an image is taken of the stained white cells and the number of cells is counted by image analysis in the analyzer.
